Oaklands Organic Free-Range Chickens

Our chickens thrive in small flocks, where they live in a community from just one day old....

They spend their first few weeks in a heated brooder house with a sheltered veranda, where they safely familiarize themselves with the outside world, and the sights and sounds of the farm.

Once they have grown their outdoor plumage, they range freely from dawn to dusk over fresh green pastures studded with oak trees, bordered by high hedgerows. This natural sheltered environment is where chickens are at their happiest. During daylight hours they enjoy to scratch herb-rich grassland, forage for worms and bask in dust baths. At dusk, the birds instinctively return to their house, where they are protected from predators.

At their optimum weight, our chickens are hand-picked in darkness to minimize stress, before a short journey to our Organic abattoir.
