Oaklands Organic Tamworth Oakland Pigs

Our ancient rare-breed pigs live in oak woodland, where they are free to root and exhibit their behaviour as nature intended....
The Tamworth is a distinctive red-coated pig, and is thought to be the most closely related to the British Forest Pig or 'Wild Boar' as it is known, of all the native breeds. Tamworth pigs are ideally suited to outdoor living and are very at-home rooting for acorns in the oak woodland here at Oaklands Farm.
The famously expensive Iberico ham comes from pigs fed on an acorn diet in the Oak woods of the Iberico region of Spain. The meat is prized for its sweet, nutty richness and the fat is thought to be healthier as a result of the pigs diet and lifestyle.
In the mid 1990's the Tamworth came top in a taste test carried out by Bristol University using both commercial and rare breed pigs in a scientifically controlled experiment. It is well known for its dual-purpose attributes, producing both delicious pork and fantastic bacon.
Our pigs live as a family, free to roam with a warm, cosy ark to use as they please. They are fed an organic GM-free ration as a supplement to their natural finds. We do not use nose-rings, teeth clipping or docking as part of our organic management system.
All our pork and bacon comes from pigs that have been born and raised here at Oaklands Farm.
